Eugene Monaghan was ordained in 1962 and for over twenty years he taught religious knowledge and music to 11 - 18 year old pupils at Ratcliffe College, Leicester. For ten years he was also Director of Music. In addition to academic music, he taught piano and organ and composed and arranged music for both chapel and concerts choirs, wind ensembles, orchestra and big bands, as well as incidental music for plays, larger works for chorus and orchestra and many settings of liturgical texts

Since 1985 he has worked in parish ministry, chiefly in South Wales. His earlier teaching experience combined with his present involvement in the challenges facing today's parish catechists has given him a broad understanding of pastoral needs and a deep appreciation of the valuable work being done at parish level by dedicated catechists and church musicians.
